# How-to Manually Start a Protection Job

### Introduction

The Cloud Data Protection platform runs Protection Jobs on a defined schedule, however it is possible for an administrator to manually run a Protection Job. This procedure would be extremely useful to run an 'on demand' backup before a software upgrade, patching, or the decommission of a server.

### Procedure

1. [Login](/v1/docs/how-to-access-cloud-data-protection) to the respective Cloud Data Protection system
2. Upon logging into the cluster you should be directed to the **Protection Jobs** page
3. If you are not automatically directed to this page or are on a different page, from the navigation menu to the left of the page select **Data Protection** → **Protection**

4. Locate the protection job you wish to manually initiate and select **Context Menu Icon** (![](https://cdn.document360.io/69e9f9c7-5da8-45e7-a671-4b8287f36122/Images/Documentation/image-1613052022122.png)), then select **Run Now** **![](https://cdn.document360.io/69e9f9c7-5da8-45e7-a671-4b8287f36122/Images/Documentation/image-1613052022169.png)**
5. Configure the **Protection Run Properties**
  1. Backup: Utilize the drop down menu to select **Backup all Objects in the Job** or **Backup only selected Objects in the Job**
  2. Type: Utilize the drop down menut to select a **Full, Incremental,** or **Log** backup

6. Select **Backup Now**  to initiate the Protection Job
