vGateway Cache Pinning

Article summary

All vGateways will be deployed with a certain amount of SSD cache to ensure that local file access is performant. While the behavior of the cache is detailed in another KB document, the vGateways do support pinning folders to cache exempting them from the caching eviction process.

Extreme caution must be exercised when pinning data to cache. Unless your Cloud File Storage configuration was specifically sized to account for caching, no allocation is made by default. Pinning workloads that are not accounted for can cause performance on other data sets to suffer as less space is available for intelligent caching to occur. It it also possible to overwhelm the local vGateway cache entirely if the pinned workload is larger than the cache drive itself, leading to Portal synchronization issues.
  1. Login to the vGateway
  2. Select Cloud Drive and then Pinned Folders
  3. Locate the folder(s) you wish to pin, select them, and select Save
  4. Data in the selected folder will now begin to be loaded into cache, this may take some time dependent upon the internet link and the volume of data which must be brought into cache
