Connect Claude for Excel, Word, and PowerPoint using an API Key

Overview

Claude can be used directly in Excel, Word, and PowerPoint through the Claude add-in for Microsoft Office. To connect it through AI CTRL, you need a personal API key and your organization's gateway URL.

Get the API key

  1. In AI Hub, go to Settings > Account > API Keys.
  2. Create a new personal key and label it for the Office add-in (for example, "Claude for Office").
  3. Copy the key.

Open the Claude add-in

  1. Open Excel, Word, or PowerPoint.
  2. Open the Claude add-in from the Office ribbon. If Claude for Microsoft 365 isn't installed, go to Add-ins, then search for "Claude for M365" or "Claude for Word".
  3. Choose Cloud provider or gateway, then select Gateway.

Connect

  1. Enter the organization-provided Gateway URL, in the format https://chat.yourcompany.com/api/v1. The trailing /v1 usually isn't needed.
  2. Paste your personal API key into the API Token/Key field.
  3. Select Test Connection or Connect.

The add-in confirms the connection once it succeeds.
