Expedient's Next Generation of Enterprise Cloud
- Updated on 10 Dec 2024
- DarkLight
Expedient is deploying a new generation of our Expedient Enterprise Cloud (EEC) platform which will be built on Broadcom’s VMware Cloud Foundation, featuring vSphere 8 and the latest version of VMware’s software-define networking product, NSX. This new platform is intended to offer enhanced functionality related to security, automation, and multi-cloud support. Expedient has appointed a project team dedicated to building, deploying, and populating the new infrastructure. Following the completion of this deployment in each Expedient data center, all clients currently subscribed to the EEC service will undergo a required migration of their environment to the new platform. These migrations are planned to begin in January 2025 and must be completed for all clients throughout 2025, to ensure compliance with Broadcom’s VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) lifecycle management requirements.
Migration activity will require a period of planned downtime to accommodate network routing and firewall changes; however, Expedient’s Cloud migration team will work directly with clients during and following the migration to ensure a smooth transition. To streamline this process, Expedient is currently assessing all EEC environments and outlining a migration schedule based on the size and complexity of each unique environment. Clients will receive direct communication from Cloud migration team at least 60 days prior to the scheduled migration to further coordinate the activity.
FAQ
When will my environment be migrated?
You will receive direct communication from the Expedient Cloud migration team at least 60 days prior to your scheduled migration to further coordinate the activity. All clients will require migration prior to 12/31/2025.
How will I be contacted when Expedient is ready to begin migration coordination?
A support ticket will be opened in Expedient’s Support Management Console (SMC), and a phone call will be made to the top users on your defined escalation list from the Expedient Cloud migration team.
Will I be able to select a specific date to perform my migration?
The Expedient Cloud migration team will provide a list of available migration dates for clients from which to choose.
Will I have dedicated support during and after the migration to ensure my environment is functioning as intended?
Yes. Expedient Engineers will be available during the migration window, and post-migration support will be available as needed.
How much downtime will my environment experience?
The downtime will vary based on the Expedient services each client subscribes to and the number of virtual machines involved in the migration. The Expedient Cloud migration team will work with each client to estimate the amount of downtime required in order to schedule the appropriate migration date/time. For clients who are familiar with performing Disaster Recovery tests utilizing Expedient’s near real-time host-to-host replication service, the downtime for the migration will be similar.
How will I access my new environment?
Each client will be provided a new Enterprise Cloud tenant URL to access the new platform. Additionally, client OneLogin portals will be updated to navigate to the new tenant.
What new features or capabilities will I have on the new platform?
The move to the new platform is focused on underlying infrastructure support, resilience, and compatibility with vSphere 8. The existing features and capabilities from vSphere, ESX, and vCloud Director will remain in the new platform.
Can an in-place upgrade to vSphere 8 be performed rather than a migration?
Due to VMware by Broadcom’s hardware compatibility matrix, and the required transition from NSX-V to NSX-T, a migration of active workloads to the new platform is the only supported path.
Are there any cost or financial implications moving to the new platform?
No, there will be no changes to your existing contracted services regarding cost. The SKUs remain exactly the same using the new Enterprise Cloud platform. No PCR or contract adjustments needed.
What work, if any, is required from me to facilitate this migration?
The amount of effort required from clients will vary based on environment complexity. Expedient’s Cloud migration team will provide a list of items required from clients based on the discovery process.
Broadcom’s website states that the end of technical guidance for NSX-V was on 1/16/2023. Is Expedient’s infrastructure outside of vendor support?
Expedient has an extended support timeline with Broadcom due to our Pinnacle Partner status and will be within support for an extended period.
