How to Create a Virtual Machine

Article summary

This section demonstrates how to create a new virtual machine (VM) within Expedient Enterprise Cloud (EEC) with no Operating System (OS) installed. An OS of your choice can then be installed from an ISO. Refer to our knowledge base article How to Upload and Mount ISO for assistance uploading install media to use.

  1. Navigate to "Data Centers" within EEC and open the Data Center context in which to build a new VM. In this example there is only one Data Center to choose from, you may have multiple:

  2. Within the Data Center context, navigate to "Virtual Machines" underneath the "Compute" section and select "New VM":

  3. Specify the following:
    • Name: VM Name (Expedient recommends using the OS NETBIOS name)
    • Computer Name: NETBIOS name (FQDNs disallowed)
    • Description: Server use case (Optional)
    • Type: New
    • Power on: Leave Powered Off
    • Operating System: Fill out based on the OS to be installed
    • Boot Options: BIOS (recommended) or EFI boot, based on the OS being used.
    • Compute: Select a number of CPUs, cores per socket, and memory. (Expedient recommends one core per socket and multiple CPUs when needed.)
    • Storage: VM default policy. Specify a size and add additional virtual disks if needed.
    • Networking: Select a network, adapter type, and IP mode (static is recommended)

  4. Select "OK" and allow EEC to compose your new VM. This should take about a minute or less.
