How-to Register a VMware Hypervisor

Introduction

To add a server to a protection job within a specific VMware hypervisor, you must register the hypervisor as a source with the Cloud Data Protection platform.

System Requirements

Please ensure the VMware hypervisor version(minimum ESXi 5.5; VM hardware level 9) is compatible with Cohesity and network connectivity on TCP Ports 22, 80, 111, 443, 445, 902, 2049, 3260, 5986, 50051, and 8080 is in place. Additionally, please reach out to Expedient to add a static route(s) to the Cohesity cluster for the hypervisor/ESXi hosts you intend to register. By default, all external communication is blocked.

Procedure

  1. Log in to the respective Cloud Data Protection system.
  2. Upon logging into the cluster, you should be directed to the Protection Jobs page.
  3. To register a VMware hypervisor server, select the Data Protection Sources tab from the navigation bar on the left-hand side of the page.

  4. Click Register | Virtual Machines.

  5. Under Select Hypervisor Source Type, select VMware: vCenter.

  6. Enter the Hostname, Username, and password of the service account and enable 'Use VM BIOS UUID to track virtual machines.' (The service account needs to be set up locally in vCenter beforehand.) image.png
  7. Click Register.
  8. Confirm the newly registered hypervisor on the Source page.
